The eviGroup Wallet is a 5” resistive touchscreen MID running Android in much the same way as the Archos 5. Based on what is likely to be a Samsung ARM11 CPU though (probably the S3C6410 as we suspect the device is from SMiT) it’s not going to beat the Archos 5 on processing power. What [...]

Fusion Garage CEO, Chandra Rathakrishna, has let loose with a post over at Fusion Garage’s new blog. Chandra says that he plans on “communicating directly with you on developments from within Fusion Garage and on industry issues” in the new space. So far, it seems he’s done just that. In his first post, he addresses [...]

I’m not one to let companies hide the real price of a device behind a subscription but at the moment I can’t find the full, unsubsidised price of the ARM/Android-based HP Compaq Airlife 100 that has just launched in Spain. Based on the two prices below and similar subsidy deals, the full price if the [...]

If you’re in Europe, I’ve got good news for you. The JooJoo tablet is now available to pre order. No, don’t laugh because there’s an interesting twist here. The WePad is up for pre-order in Germany too.

Sascha Pallenberg, MeetMobility podcaster and editor-in-chief at Netbooknews attended a recent WePad live demo and has posted his videos. They’re in German but I’ve been through them and pulled out some of the important points here. (Luckily I also speak German.)

Last time we saw something about Neofonie’s WePad Slate [product page], all we got to see was an emulated version of the interface. According to netbooknews.com, “Neofine finally got sick of hearing how its product didn’t work and provided a working sample”. And thus netbooknews has lots of footage of Neofonie showing off some actual [...]

While Shanzai.com seem to be fairly upbeat about this 7” touchscreen (resistive it appears) tablet, I’m not so sure. I had the same reservations about the Camangi Webstation (which turned out to be less than exciting) and I have the same reservations about the Archos 7 tablet. I’ve experienced it with the SmartQ7 tablet too. [...]

If this turns out to be accurate, I have to say that I feel pretty bad for Fusion Garage — the company behind the Joojoo [product page]. The numbers are so low for Joojoo pre-orders that it’s almost unbelievable, but then again, I can’t say that I saw any advertising for the Joojoo, pre- or [...]

I love the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. Jenn of Pocketables, on the other hand, doesn’t and we’ve been having a to-and-fro on Twitter that’s worth extending here because it shows how personal opinions can vary widly. We’ve challenged ourselves to write one paragraph on the A5 to say why we think what we think. Before [...]

I don’t know where to start with this one but highlighting the incompatibility between Moblin and ARM-based devices is a good place too start and it gives us a hint that this might not be the huge and interesting MID and ‘smart’ book leak that it could have been. The ‘roadmap’ picked up by Android [...]

The modestly priced Archos 7 Home Tablet [product page] is now available for pre-order from Amazon for $199. It is the 8GB version, but there will purportedly be a 2GB version as well. Archos has stated that the tablet will ship by end of April. The Archos 7 Home Tablet (let’s call it the Archos [...]

More mobile internet device news leaking out from Dell today shows some new information about the Dell Streak. As we heard, the launch timescales could be well into the summer but at least there are already plans for accessories. You might be needing that battery!

If there’s one thing that consumer tablets will need it’s branding. Dell, Android and Tegra are three of the best so if the Looking Glass, a 7” tablet, doesn’t take off we’ll know the tablet either someone screwed up the marketing or people really can’t be bothered with tablets. The Looking Glass (Dell Mini 7?) [...]

Last time we caught up with Bob Morris, Director of Mobile Computing at ARM, we spoke at length about consumer tablets and smartbooks, the software stack and what would attract a customer. I also asked him how significant the ‘smart’ device category was. At that time he said it was ‘extremely important.’ I’m guessing that [...]

The core of a ‘smart’ device or consumer tablet/netbook is the software and despite its shortcomings, the iPhone OS is recognised as the market leader. Android isn’t far behind though and for some, the multitasking and ‘openness’ put it way into the lead. If you want the best Android experience out there, you’ve got to [...]

I’m pretty sure the internet can read my mind. I swear just the other day I was wondering why we haven’t really seen Android on the iPhone. It is ARM based after all. Frighteningly enough, just a day or two after that thought, this video pops up…. [Some days I think my mind might be [...]

Unfortunately there’s no mention of the Google Marketplace in the latest information from HP.com about the Airlife 100 but at least we’re one step closer to seeing it in the marketplace. Official specifications are now available on the HP website in the U.S. (indicating that it’s coming to the U.S. market perhaps) and they confirm [...]
