While the Droid X [portal page] beats the iPhone 4 [portal page] in a straight-up megapixel to megapixel comparison by 3 megapixels (Droid X’s cam is 8 MP while iPhone 4’s is 5 MP), the iPhone 4 uses a fancy back-illuminated sensor, which enhances it’s ability to capture light, according to Apple. The Droid X [...]

Carrypad is a place to check out the advanced, fun, easy, consumer-focused world of handhelds. We love the direction that Android, iOS, MeeGo, WebOS devices are heading to and we love the way that smartphones are taking on the ‘Mobile Internet Device’ theme but if you’re a productivity user or someone that relies on desktop [...]

Back at Computex Asus announced two new tablets, a 12 inch touting Windows 7 device called the Eee Pad EP121 and the Windows 7 Embedded, 10 inch EP101TC. Windows 7 Embedded runs on the Windows CE platform which Microsoft isn’t pushing as a finalised tablet ready operating system but instead a base in which OEM’s [...]

You’ve likely heard of the iPhone 4 antenna debacle and saw coverage of the recent press conference that Apple held on the issue. Well, as an iPhone 4 owner, I’m quite bothered by what’s going on and the way that Apple has acted toward this issue. First of all, Apple has contradicted itself over the [...]

This is interesting, at least for us. Palm have registered the trademark PALMPAD in the U.S. according to a news item from MyHPMini. The WePad got crushed and turned into a ‘Tab’ and the EeePad hasn’t actually launched so it will be interesting to see how far ‘PalmPad’ goes. It will also be interesting to [...]

The Droid X [portal page] can now be officially purchased through Verizon. New customers can snag one for $199 with a new 2 year contract, and existing customers eligible for an upgrade can re-up for another 2 years and receive the same $199 pricing. Like all the Droid phones (and other Verizon smartphones) Verizon requires [...]

Apple’s press conference is still doing some Q&A as I write, but the gist of it consisted of Apple saying that all phones have the reception issue when held in certain ways and that they don’t actually have a problem that is unique to their device. Still, they say that they want to make customers [...]

We’ve stayed out of iPhone 4 [portal page] reception coverage until now, but things are finally getting interesting as Apple readies a press conference for tomorrow at 10 AM PST (1 AM EST) in which they are expected to address the issue. Apple has been slow to recognize the problem, initially asking users to hold [...]

I hope you’ve already read the ‘warning’ article I posted last week because unfortunately, the Aava phone isn’t something we can review or draw any conclusions from. It’s a developer platform, a demonstrator and a showcase item. It’s using beta hardware and pre-Alpha software too so if you’re expecting something shiny at this stage, I’m [...]

The first Android tablets are soon to hit our stores in what can only be described as the tip of a very large iceberg, every major and not so major manufacturer has a device on the horizon it would seem. Text entry on these Android devices is going to be important as it will be [...]

I’ve been quite surprised by how many of my non-tech friends have heard of the Motorola Droid X. Generally I’ve found that non-techies pretty much only recognize the iPhone, but Verizon must be doing a decent job of marketing upcoming devices here in the US. Tnkgrl, who always seems to have her hands on the [...]

Note: Article title is a tounge-in-cheek reference to a recent ARSTechnica article. See below for the real story. It’s actually all about the browser engine and platform, not the OS. As I begin a series of tests on the Aava prototype phone today, the first thing I wanted to get out of the way was [...]
