Motorola Droid X Unboxed, Now Tracking in the Portal

droid x I’ve been quite surprised by how many of my non-tech friends have heard of the Motorola Droid X. Generally I’ve found that non-techies pretty much only recognize the iPhone, but Verizon must be doing a decent job of marketing upcoming devices here in the US.

Tnkgrl, who always seems to have her hands on the latest smartphones, has graced us with a great Droid X unboxing. You can find one of her videos below (for the other, click through to her site for the first power-on video).

One of the most surprising things that you’ll probably find is how large the Droid X is. The HTC Incredible, iPhone 4, and Nexus One all look quite tiny by comparison. The screen is a whopping 4.3” and the only current smartphone screen that I know of that surpasses it is the Dell Streak’s 4.8” screen [Portal page].

In addition to the videos, tnkgrl has a bunch of great shots of the device in a flickr slideshow.

If you want a detailed run-down of the Droid X’s specs, check out our Droid X tracking page in the Portal. There has been some initial confusion over what CPU the Droid X uses, but we’ve confirmed it to be a 1GHz Ti OMAP 3630 CPU. The Droid X specs that you’ll find in the Portal are from an official source, and not cobbled together from rumors.

  1. I technically cannot delay for this smart phone, just two days remaining and I simply hope I can get my hands on one,. I have been reading a lot about the Android two.2 update that can come in August, simply one more motive to be excited about this great phone. Motorola and Verizon wireless claim they will update the phone to Android 2.2 “late summer time.” It will probably be an over-the-air update. But out-of-the box on its July 15 launch it will have Android 2.1.

  2. I have already been sense a minor heat this morning from several individuals not desiring to think that the Droid X inventory will become limited on release day, as we noted earlier. Well we have only got five additional screenshots from 5 fairly main markets and I would say again of which stock looks to end up being fairly limited to me. A few of the major suppliers get upwards of sixty devices, but a few might simply have five units. Now possibly these numbers are over average for a Verizon release, but for a gadget this huge, I guess I simply just figured stores might could have tried to have already been overstocked.

    dell streak is 5.0″ screen

  4. so i am on my fifth motorola cliq waiting for the sixth to arrive.. Sad and i need to say i’m really disappointed with the replacements ive been recently getting, keyboards not lighting up, the screen splitting , turning off unexpectedly, being extreamly warm when charging..etc.. ive just had the worst luck with this mobile phone.. they offered me the new dash and the new blackberry.. but i really like the overall flexibility of this phone so much that im attempting to look past it.. i simply need to know if anyone else is having these problems with replacements.. or just in general.

  6. The Motorola DROID continues to present new possibilities day-to-day. I have had it for about 10 months and I’ve had a Blackberry attached to my system because September 1998. Getting connected is often a essential aspect of my existence so I’m usually reachable by family and co-workers. I am a bit addicted on the Market place for DROID Applications. When the device had unlimited memory I would test the capacity. I think this OS is the way in the future and intend to develop with all of you to learn it by means of and via. Thanks to the content.
