This is rather embarrassing I’ve been a big proponent of ARMs Cortex CPU cores and have regularly highlighted that they are ‘entry level’ for any sort of Web work on an ARM platform. I’ve tested many ARM11 devices from smartphones to tablets and have never seen any browser speed or quality that would make me [...]

Samsung has posted a demonstration of it’s upcoming Galaxy Tab device to it’s official YouTube channel. It’s great to be able to see what sort of performance people can expect out of the Galaxy Tab, rather than hiding behind pre-rendered videos of the software in action (more than we can say about the Blackberry Playbook [...]

I remember getting excited about the original Touchbook when information started coming through in mid 2009. The modular keyboard/tablet concept seemed sound and the ARM Cortex processor offered a chance to see how the new architecture could perform. I remember too, the disappointment in the first weeks of deliveries as people started reporting issues that [...]

While we’re waiting for the Viewpad 7 to turn up in shops in EU and America, you can already buy it in Malaysia. It’s called the Spice mi700 there and is offered through CSL, the manufacturing company that also put the JooJoo through its lines. One assumes that they are also manufacturing for Camangi, Viewsonic [...]

There are people that visit the site directly, there are people that discover us through search and there are people that keep tabs on us through RSS, Email and Twitter. It seems silly to leave the 5 gazillion Facebook users out in the cold so if your go-to site for a personalised feed is Facebook, [...]

While I dropped some test images and videos comparing the iPhone 4 and Droid X myself, I wanted to highlight and article over at tnkgrl Mobile which has more comparison info and a detailed write-up of the strengths and weaknesses in the cameras of each phone. If you are looking for a phone with a [...]

Despite the incomplete nature of these ‘smart’ books I’ve been testing, I’m still positive that the form factor and ARM-based processor has a lot to offer and that it will greatly influence the netbook of the future. People will say that the smart ‘book’ is dead but I guarantee that if Apple were to release [...]

Continued from Twitter for @alsutton @beantin @mkearley2008 and others that were maybe a little surprised at my tweet this morning… “My current stance on iPad alternatives – There are none.” I couldn’t answer the twitter responses in 140 chars so here’s a more detailed, and I hope, understandable explanation. Consumer Internet device success continues to [...]

I was fortunate enough to bump into Stephan Odoerfer of 4TiiToo on my way to San Francisco last week. 4TiiToo are one of the two companies that are responsible for the WeTab and being with Stephan on a 10hr flight gave me a good chance to test the device out, albeit without Internet. The WeTab [...]

I don’t usually cover standard smartphones on Carrypad but seeing as Nokia were kind enough to spend 2 hours demonstrating the N8 to me in Düsseldorf last month, I’ll be kind enough to comment on it and provide you readers with some thoughts. [Photos, video and brief N82 photo comparison below.] As someone who’s heavily [...]

We’ve had talks with Linpus about MeeGo before but in a discussion at IDF last week we got down to some more details about the MeeGo Slate Edition and it sounds like we’ve got potential here. Remember, Linpus have supplied Acer with Linux builds in the past. What we know right now is that Linpus [...]

We’ve spent a week in San Francisco at one of the biggest developer shows of the year and haven’t posted a single article on Carrypad yet and that’s because most of what we saw was Windows-based. That, in our eyes, isn’t exactly the ideal solution for consumer-focused solutions we would be reporting on at Carrypad. [...]

I’m flying to San Francisco tomorrow and so you’re unlikely to hear much from me until Intel’s IDF starts on Monday so before then I thought I’d promote a couple of reports and offer them to you as an e-pub so you can read them at your leisure over the weekend. Of course, you can [...]
