9 Minute Video Demo of Samsung Galaxy Tab Makes Me Sad

galaxy tab demo Samsung has posted a demonstration of it’s upcoming Galaxy Tab device to it’s official YouTube channel. It’s great to be able to see what sort of performance people can expect out of the Galaxy Tab, rather than hiding behind pre-rendered videos of the software in action (more than we can say about the Blackberry Playbook at this point).

I’m pretty impressed with what is shown in the video, as long as shipping devices retain this level of smooth performance.

What makes me sad is how blatantly Samsung has ripped ideas from Apple. Honestly, I understand that some companies think that if they copy Apple they will be successful too, but how on earth can Samsung possibly be proud of shipping a product that has many parts of it’s interface copied right from the iPad? Apple isn’t the only company in the world that can design creative, usable, and intuitive interfaces, but if big players like Samsung are going to give up and just start copying, then maybe they will be.

I guess Samsung just wants to take advantage of the less informed as we near the height of tablet-mania. Perhaps they feel that if they can say “Look! Our book reader flips pages too! inch then maybe they’ll rope a would-be iPadder into buying their product instead.

I don’t see anything that makes me think it’s worth the high ticket price.

I was really hoping we’d see more this long after the iPad launch. But I guess they need a year and Android 3 to blow us away?

i know everybody says this but its true, webOS is the only OS ive seen to match iOS elegance yet add much more functionality. the multitasking & notifications are brilliant & put everybody else to shame.

of course webOS was designed primarily by ex-Apple talent, so what does that tell you?

heres to hoping Palms UI guru that Google poached can help clean up Android enough so that manufactures will stop putting their silly skins on top of Android.

Do you care to specify with examples?

“Look! Our book reader flips pages too!”

quite many readers do it too… so did apple copy it from ms reader as it has it too way before vege company..

P.S Nokia: “If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride”

You are right on this. The point I’m trying to make is that Apple seems to be one of few creative companies left these days. Everyone else just tries to make their products like others so that they can essentially steal the publicity and buzz that other products have by appearing to be those products to the uninformed. Very similar to the fake Asian gadget market.

As a non iPad, iPhone owner, I don’t care if it’s copied or not. I care if it’s good. I’d love to see something better than Apples iOS UI but something that tends towards it is also OK by be.

show me another interface as good as an Apple iiPad for transforming technology products into user-friendly tools. er…a…I have a Palm and I do love the interface. It’s definately more powerful in many ways than what’s on the iPad although the iPad screams and my Palm sometimes walks along…Android? Well not bad but still a freshman effort and they just poached some Palm folks…Windows 7? Well it’s a lot more powerful than all of them but with power comes complexity – more to learn and a lot slower. For just hanging around and doing casual computing stuff the iPad still is tops in my book.

Yes – the ipad the “I have no brains so do it for me” (wo)man’s gadget.

  11. jb82 says:

I think Chippy is referring to the email client with the preview on one side and the list of emails on the other. Like Apple invented that! Microsoft outlook can even do that.

Or maybe he just means the whole tablet idea.

What I am annoyed about with all these tablets is the stupid videos showing people flicking the screens around like we are supposed to be mesmerized by it.

Apple copied a majority of its Mac operation system ideas from Xerox PARC Star. This is how innovation progresses.

“If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants.”, Isaac Newton.

To all you innovators out there, copy all the best, give credit where credit is due and build on it.
