Carrypad started in 2006 with the idea that there should be a mobile device that is “the parent of the smartphone… It is the offspring and partner of the PC.” [Ref] In the last 4 years we’ve seen a range of good devices from mini tablets to mini PC’s. Nokia nearly hit the mark a [...]

Yesterday I attended a Windows Phone 7 event hosted by HTC to showcase their new range of smartphones. It was a good evening and great to get hands on time with Microsoft’s latest foray into the ever changing mobile landscape. I’ve been posting snippets of my first thoughts and initial impressions on Twitter all day [...]

If you’ve been thinking about an Android tablet purchase over the next 2 months, these devices are probably on your list. Galaxy Tab, Dell Streak, Notion Ink Adam, Viewpad 7, Archos 70, Archos 101 and maybe the Toshiba Folio. Only 2 of them are currently available and both the Tab and the Streak are great [...]

Pocketables have some interesting news about the Wi-Fi-only version of the Galaxy Tab. We’re seeing a continuing slide on the prices in Europe with the UK leading on 529 pounds (592 Euros) and others, like Germany, not far behind. The pre-tax price is 451 pounds, $709 which is a healthy chunk of money. The U.S. [...]

It only seems fair to write this post on the Galaxy Tab so for the record, it is now 1943hrs and I’m sitting up in bed with a cup of tea and a packet of shortbread. I am using the device in portrait mode with the Samsung keyboard enabled along with XT9′s error correction and [...]

As Mr Jobs statements filter out through the CE world, I find myself wanting to highlight two key factors that don’t fit into his tight strategy. Choice and Mobility. Running a tight ship for the software layers is important and can result in a better user experience and cheaper route to market for developers but [...]

I messed up! Many Tab owners will end up doing the same too because of the position of the built-in mic. When taking videos in a classic ‘mirrored looser’ hand shape you need to be careful. Here’s the effect in my first video uploaded direct from the Galaxy Tab. Note the muffled video then watch [...]

There’s only omen way to test the on-screen-keyboard on the Galaxy Tab and that’s to use it! Im currently lying down with the Galaxy Tab in portrait mode, a small amount of haptic applied to the keyboard and I’ve enabled error correction and word prediction. It’s working amazingly well. The weight is good in portrait [...]

There are ‘value add’ features all over the Galaxy Tab experience. Audio, video, docking and one very important one – apps. Samsung have obviously spent a lot of time and money developing a suite of apps for the Galaxy Tab and, like the video experience, it lifts the device above most Android experiences. In this [...]

A full video demonstration of video capabilities is embedded further down in this article. Thanks to Techdepot for supporting us with the Galaxy Tab I admit was a little suspicious of the claims that the Galaxy Tab could play back ‘Full HD’ content but it’s now confirmed. I’ve managed to play back two 1080p H.264 [...]
