While I wait for my (6 hour) delayed flight here in Frankfurt it’s probably worth putting some text down about how the Tab has performed today, a day of snow, cold and cancellations. Unplugged at about 10am today the Tab was fully charged and performed its first duty by giving me the time of the [...]

Customer satisfaction during product purchase and ownership is a complex science and I wouldn’t suggest for a moment that I know a lot about it. Personally I can get very upset if a product fails to deliver on marketing promises and wildly passionate if a product does more than expected. That’s something I keep out [...]

It’s hard to believe that the iPhone launched without an application store but it did. If you’ve lived with ‘apps’ for any length of time you’ll appreciate the advantages and probably won’t want to go back to a place without an integrated app store right? Discovery Try-and-Buy Unified Billing Discussion / Comment / Sharing Developer [...]

Chippy has already unboxed and live reviewed the Viewsonic Viewpad 7 [tracking page] and although its not quite the Samsung Galaxy Tab it is a viable and cheaper alternative. Well if you’re on an even tighter budget you may want to look at the identically spec’d Linx Commtiva N700 which is a full £100 cheaper [...]

I like these guys, and not just because they’ve got a load of cool tech to play with! Shanzai.com appear to have some good contacts in the trade and a lot of experience with the market over there in the East. I’m almost in agreement with them on the ideal tablet size too. You may [...]

The general consensus is that the Galaxy Tab has good battery life. Most users are reporting well over 24 hours in normal use and for me it’s the first ‘smartphone’ I’ve had that actually gets through 18-hours of an extended day, fully connected, syncronising and ‘present’ on instant messaging networks without a top-up charge. At [...]

Acer announced a set of Android tablets this afternoon that are sure to make people pause before they put an order in for the holiday season. The 7” Tablet looks like a belter and you can be sure that Acer will compete heavily on price. The 7” model on the left (neither model has a [...]

We’ve been watching the Notion Ink Adam [tracking page] carefully ever since it’s early beginnings. Now, Notion Ink has launched a new website in preparation of the launch of their first device, expected in either December or January. Their previous site was very flashy, both metaphorically and literally. The flash based aspects of it really [...]

About 3 months ago I bought a Toshiba AC100 ‘smart’ book for testing. While I didn’t believe it would provide me with a netbook experience I was very interested in continuing my testing with ‘always on’ ARM-based devices. Unfortunately, that ‘always on’ experience highlighted in marketing and videos, has still not been delivered 3 months [...]

We’ve got our hands on a very unique Android device. Check out our unboxing of the Samsung Galaxy S Continuum [tracking page], which features a secondary AMOLED display which measures 1.8” and has a resolution of 480×96. To activate the display, you squeeze both parts of the bottom part of the phone. The display has [...]

Day 2 of the MeeGo included close to 60 sessions for the 1000 people at Aviva stadium in Dublin this week so there was no shortage of information available. As someone who’s trying to work out ‘when’ and trying to analyse ‘where’ MeeGo really fits among the mobile and desktop operating systems though it was [...]

We were lucky enough to get a few days with the Aava / Intel / Meego phone earlier this year and our tests with the handset UX showed that there was a lot of work to do. In a presentation at the MeeGo onference in Dublin today, we saw progress, a good working demo and [...]

RIM has posted an official video on their BlackBerry YouTube channel and does a brief web browsing comparison with the PlayBook [tracking page] and iPad [tracking page] side-by-side. It’s good to see the PlayBook in the flesh rather than as a pre-rendered animation as it’s been seen up until now. [...]

My apologies for not getting to this post sooner. Apple released a very cool HDR mode for the iPhone 4 with the iOS 4.1 update. As tempting as it was, HDR wasn’t enough to get me to jump on the upgrade right away and I instead decided to wait for 4.1 to be jailbroken. But [...]

We’re heading towards the end of day 1 of the MeeGo conference in Dublin and although we haven’t heard about any new hardware (it really wasn’t expected) we are picking up news. Keynotes this morning were mainly ‘call-to-action’ for the developers with both Nokia and Intel saying very little about hardware and products. Nokia re-stated [...]
