I’m here at the Asus booth standing over (as I type) the Eee Pad MeMo. Asus also have the specs which show a 1.2 Ghz dual-core Snapdragon, a 380gm weight, array mics and voice capability. The voice capability has been extended out to a mini handset via Bluetooth some proprietary protocols. It’s a great idea! [...]

MSI have the Tegra powered Windpad behind glass here at CEBIT. The images above show full sd card slot, mini-hdmi, mini-USB, one full-sized USB port and the same optical mouse as seen on the Windows-based Windpad 110W. Surprise surprise, we’ve got a Windows 7 device to take a look at and it’s the HTC Surround! I’ve been itching to get my hands on a WP7 device, and I’m actually pretty impressed with the out of box experience.

Back at IFA in Sept 2010 Toshiba told us the 2.2 update was due in 6 weeks. To be honest, I had lost all hope of ever seeing Froyo on it but sure enough, there it is as a downloadable firmware upgrade through the Toshiba Service Station application today. I’ve downloaded, installed and tested and [...]

Yes, Carrypad wasn’t a product of the iPad boom. It started on paper in late 2005 as my phone contract renewal time was approaching. I had a boring job and I spent quite a few hours thinking about what I really needed. I was already using Internet data over GPRS on a daily basis and [...]

On the last day of MWC I just had one more task to do and that was to spend as much time as possible with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Contacts at MWC had already told me that it was good so I headed over to Samsung with time to spare. Yes, the Galaxy Tab is [...]

Nicole Scott of Netbook News tells me she isn’t too impressed. She has a point. Its hardly the most attractive device in the Tablet space. The thing is, this will come in at a very nice price. Ben has already highlighted a $300 price which means you have a better option than the Viewpad 7. [...]

Nvidia gave us an impressive demonstration of their next-gen Tegra platform yesterday. More 3D power, more HD video decoding power and two more CPU cores. The press release highlighted better CPU performance when measured against a 2Gz Dual Core Intel CPU and a 3x GPU performance increase over Tegra 2. We had a demonstration of [...]

Aachen University, Germany demonstrated an interesting iOS-based application this week at MWC. The application utilises multiple iOS devices as display exptensions to create one large multitouch display. The really interesting thing about this setup is the way that the screen positioning is calculated. During set-up, all but one of the displays shows a visual code. [...]

I’m at Intel’s MeeGo AppLab this morning and just entering the second session where the engineers are giving coding demos. While that’s happening, I have a chance to give an update on what I’ve heard this morning. Intel has tried hard to prop up MeeGo this week. ‘Nothing changes’ is a phrase I’ve heard a [...]

We’ve got the Nexus S on hand for some testing and it’s certainly doing some impressing! In addition to a beautiful display with an amazing contrast ratio, the Nexus S is topping the Quadrant benchmark charts over all other Android devices. Then there’s that whole Android 2.3 thing it’s got going on that has some great tweaks to the OS. There’s a full review in the works, but in the mean time we’ve prepared an overview video for your viewing pleasure, step inside and have a look!

I just wanted to share a good article by Josh Smith of Notebooks.com. Josh sounds about as fed up with US carriers and their “unlimited” data plans as I am. Every major US carrier advertises unlimited data plans, but I don’t believe any of them are actually unlimited, in the sense that, you know, the [...]

Fresh out of MWC – Huawei has announced the IDEOS S7 Slim which is a 7” slate running Android 2.2. It looks to be a revised version of the S7 that we saw at Computex last year. Huawei claims that it’ll be priced “below 300 USD”, which likely means that it’ll crop up for $299. [...]
