Carrypad Refresh – Focusing on Helping Customers Buy the Right Tablet

Posted on 15 May 2012 By Steve Chippy Paine

carrypad product listAfter 2 years of running Carrypad as a tablet resource in the traditional blogging style we’ve decided it’s time for a change. We’re going to move away from the a news-led format and focus on  putting our expertise into tools that will help you find the perfect tablet.

The product database was always our unique offering so we’ve decided to put more focus on that and run Carrypad as a place you can come to find out about the latest tablet products, read and compare specifications, choose products to buy and be a jumping-off point for other great content, including news and reviews around the Internet. By doing that we think we can be more useful to you. You won’t see much editorial but you can be sure that we’re continuing to work in the back office to offer the best tablet database and the best buyers advise on the Internet.

To that end,  we’ve added in something special. We’ve wrapped up our knowledge about the current tablet products in a new tablet chooser.

We’ve partnered with Larovo for this new tool. They are experts in the field of web-based product advisors and as we’re experts in tablets, we’ve been able to stuff all our knowledge inside their tool and make it available for you here. We love what Larovo are doing with expert buying advice and we’ll be working closely with them on new tools and features in the future.

So, to summarise. We’re re-orienting ourselves around tablet product information. The main RSS feed will include all the products that go into the database so to follow new tablets, simply subscribe to the RSS feed. You can always access the interactive list of tablets here.

The new Tablet Buyers Advisor is here.

Your feedback is welcome. What do you need to keep track of new products, features and to help you choose your perfect tablet?

    Good for you folks!

I noticed CarryPad seemed to have become slower at providing first page updates, so I was using Blogtrottr to get email notifications of RSS posts.

One thing you might want to consider is a head-to-head comparison function like some sites have (TechCrunch for example, oddly enough).

Best of luck, and I will be around. :)

You mean Carrypad is slower in loading, or slower in having new items on the front page (i.e. new news items?) I hope it’s not the former!

We have a comparison facility available via http://www.carrypad.com/devices/ Select devices and ‘compare checked products.’ Is this the sort of thing you’re talking about? Maybe we should highlight this feature.

      Thanks for the feedback.

Slower in updating on the front page, I meant. :) It’s just as fast as always!

Just tested the buying advisor. It is indeed a very convenient tool that excels in linking my expectations with a suitable product. carrypad and Larovo sounds like a perfect fit! Wishing you all the best in the future, and be assured that I ll be around!

I just tried the buying advisor and even though I specified Windows, the first 3 results were for Android tablets! Fortunately, I made the desicion myself and am more than happy with my Fujitsu Q550. :)

Also good feedback. It’s important to know if it doesn’t work for people. In your results you should have seen a small notifier that explains the device doesn’t fully meet your requirements. Could you do me a favor and re-run it to check for the two asterisks at the end of the product name. Maybe we should make those notes more prominent.
