Samsung Q1b (VIA C7 version) manual spotted.

Posted on 22 August 2006 by Chippy

A Carrypad reader, Mr Anonymous (!), spotted that the Q1b manual is already online here.

Sure enough, on page 3, there it is in black and white.

The disk and memory specifications are slightly different to what was released for the UK market (1GB/60GB) but I guess its a manual written for multiple English language markets. A quick scan of the manual doesn’t reveal any battery life details unfortunately.

[Update. The Q1b will use the VX700 integrated north/southbridge chipset. A slight advance on the shipset used on the VIA C7-M based eo i7110. This could bring battery life advantages.]

Cool. I was hoping that Samsung’s next UMPC would have an AMD based CPU though. It is nice however to see VIA gain a little more market share.

Anyone have any idea if Samsung has ANY plans of introducing an AMD based UMPC anytime soon?

Only one speaker and no array mic. Bluetooth optional. multi card slot mentioned but not shown in any view? Looks like they are going after a lower price point by cutting some functions and making others optional.

The only thing is, the Q1b looks like it will come in at a higher price than the Q1. I think they have to have something special on this, a USP. The only things you can’t see from the specs are 1) The processor speed 2) Battery life.
Even if they bump the processor up to 1.5Ghz, it won’t make it much more powerful than a Celeron so I think that they have a battery life trick up their sleeve.
